Above all I consider myself a storyteller. I often use words, phrases, poetry, spoken word, and song to inspire my work. The idea of entertainment vs art is the greatest juxtaposition I am interested in, where do we toe the line between making something with artistic value while still being able to entertain an audience? As a queer person in America I also am interested in how to tell stories of my experience while still acknowledging that I am a white man and understanding the privilege that comes with that. I believe dance is a way to bring people of many backgrounds, stories, and lives together, and I am always trying to find how to do that in my work. Dance should be fun, many of us started as little kids just having a blast moving to music, so why don’t we remember that in everything we do?
